We would love to see how we can help you. Where possible, ISS has been designed to help make your life a little easier.

We can support you in the following ways:

  • South African Sign Language (SASL Training)

This SASL training gives you a basic introduction to South African Sign Language (SASL) (2 hours per week for 12 weeks). It will teach you basic communication skills in SASL and is aimed at helping you communicate. As the parent of a Deaf child it is a wonderful way to learn the basic skills necessary to communicate with your child. We also highly recommend it if you have a Deaf family member or work colleague that you are wanting to communicate with.

We also offer a one-day sensitization workshop on Deafness and hearing loss, which includes a training DVD and poster.

  • Social Competency Model (SoCoMo)

This is a developmental model aimed to assist staff evaluate themselves with regular tasks and skills. It is also aimed to help you understand the impact of stress and major life events, as well as the function of resilience and supporting factors. This will help you create an improved understanding of your personal circumstances. We also highly recommend this for parents of hearing or Deaf children – SoCoMo is the perfect tool to help you understand your child’s circumstances.
